Presidential Scandal!

Filed under: — Different River @ 11:16 pm

Well, Reuters has finally found the scandal that will be the undoing of President Bush!

Through expert use of a telephoto lens at the UN meeting today, a crack Reuters photographer named Rick Wilking discovered an internal Bush administration memo that the President had just that moment written to the Secretary of State. This document reveals that President Bush discusses his bodily functions with top cabinet members — not only that, but he discussed with a top female cabinet member a bodily function carried out with the same body part that lead the Republicans to impeach President Clinton! Does the hypocrisy of the Republicans know no bounds?

See, President Bush goes to the bathroom! At a UN meeting, no less! Here he is, leader of the free world, meeting at the world’s most important institution, there’s a war in Iraq, flooding in New Orleans, refugees everywhere, and what is the President doing? Calling for a bathroom break! Does his selfishness and pettiness know no bounds? Can’t this wait until after 2008?

Seriously, though: Yes, of course the President has to go to the bathroom, just like everyone else. But we all knew that. Reuters’ publishing of this photo does not give the public any information we didn’t already have. It does not serve the interest of the public’s “right to know” — since, frankly, we all know this President, like every President before him, has the same body functions as everyone else. The only purpose served by this photo is to compromise the dignity of the Presidential office.

This photo does not tell us anything we didn’t know about the President, but it tells us quite a bit about Reuters, their judgement, and their ethics.

(Hat tip: Drudge.)

Actually, now that I think of it, there’s precedent for this concern. When Saddam was captured, he refused a drink of water, saying, “If I drink water I will have to go to the bathroom and how can I use the bathroom when my people are in bondage?”

So this shows that Saddam is morally superior to Bush, since Bush went to the bathroom when people are suffering from the hurricane, and Saddam did not go to the bathroom, because he cared about his people so much!

Yes, see what the evil, lying Bush administration has been hiding from us? Aren’t we lucky to have the intrepid reporters and photographers from Reuters ferreting out the truth for us?

    Reuters did it with Photoshop!
The rather juvenile photo releases by Reuters and mentioned below was apparently produced, or at least enhanced, with Photoshop. Or so says the Reuters editor who is saying, in effect, don’t blame the photographer; he couldn’t even read the note:
